About MickCliff

Michael J. Hinchcliff, MickCliff ©, is a visual artist with a disability but he doesn’t let that stop him!

Mike (Mick) lives in Ottawa, at an apartment with his cat

He hopes one day to make a living as a Visual Artist so that he can have a cat, more control over his life and his own apartment with room for a helper and a painting studio.

His inspiration comes from a love of animals, especially cats, from birds, especially puffins, from nature, deserts – mainly layer cakes and the colours of life.

He has been painting and exhibiting for 15 years with “BEING Studios” – Ottawa (formerly “H’Art of Ottawa”).

Mike has participated in dozens of group exhibits over the years from Canada’s Rideau Hall to galleries on Ottawa’s Sussex Drive, various regional Visual Arts Centres, the once annual, “Ottawa Bagel Shop & Deli” and “Green Door” exhibits, and many others.

More recently, he has sold work at the Ottawa Art Gallery and at The National Gallery of Canada.

One of his ink drawings, “Mother Rhinoceros Looking For Her Baby” appeared in a decorator’s magazine in 2019.

While, one of his prints, “Circles For A Sweater” was selected as a gift by the Tamir Foundation for Canadian fashion writer, Jeanne Deker at their “Stepping Out – 2019” charity fashion show and gala.

Mike is also proud to say that one of his art works outsold a signed, Limited Edition, Robert Bateman Print at a charity auction for the Down Syndrome Association at a Kanata, Ont. golf tournament!

He is a prolific artist. His works are collected alongside some pretty important artists in enviable private and corporate collections in Canada.

Some of his commissions have sold in the $1000.00 range.

Mike Hinchcliff welcomes all forms of one-on-one artistic collaborations with other artists in the community as learning experiences and is especially grateful for the opportunity in 2018 to collaborate with artist, Christopher Griffin, at BEING STUDIOS, Ottawa in the creation of a wonderful rhinoceros painting and a bird themed work. Both were done using road tar pressed on canvas with acrylic paint.
